Physiotherapy exercises are individual sessions given by physical therapist according to a special program of dosed physical workloads.
DO YOU NEED IT?
Physiotherapy plays a special role in the rehabilitation program of post-stroke patients.
Due to the fastest motor rehabilitation of post-stroke patients, physiotherapy sessions should begin immediately after a stroke, as soon as the patient’s general condition and degree of understanding of what is happening permits.
The tasks of physiotherapy include increasing the volume of movements, strength and agility in the paresis-affected limbs, restoration of self-service skills and equilibrium functions.
All the means of physiotherapy from the first days should be aimed to restoring the control of movements and normal balance of strength and tone of the antagonist muscles.
Physiotherapy is prescribed for patients:
- With the consequences of stroke, traumatic brain injury (paresis, paralysis, contracture, impaired coordination, speech, etc.);
- With osteochondrosis of the spine;
- For prevention (normalization of muscle tone, body weight, formation of muscle corset, increased immunity)
WHAT PROBLEM DOES IT SOLVE?
Fine movements are formed on the basis of large movements of the whole body. If the brain can not control the arms and legs, it is very difficult for it to control the tongue, fingers, and movements of the eyeballs. This is one of the reasons for the disturbance of the development of oral and written speech (motor aphasia and agraphia after a stroke or traumatic brain injury).
During individual sessions, an experienced physical therapist creates an exercise plan for a patient quickly to achieve results.
During the session physical workloads are strictly dosed according to individual characteristics of each patient, which makes these sessions highly effective. Therefore, physical therapy at the ‘Neurological Clinic of Dr. Yatsenko’ is carried out only individually: one patient — one instructor.
Patient, after completing the course, receives and individual set of exercises of rehabilitation plan to do it home on his/her own.
WHAT IS THE NOVELTY AND DIFFERENCE FROM OTHERS?
The method of dosed workloads was developed by the specialists of ‘Neurological clinic of Dr. Yatsenko’. The sessions of physical therapy are only individual.
HOW DOES IT HAPPEN?
Physical therapist develops for each patient an individual training plan.
Particular attention is paid to normalizing the functions of the limbs and preventing formation of perverse compensations that appear during attempts of uncontrolled restoring of extremity by the patient on his/her own.
Constant attention is being paid to special exercises for spastically tensed muscle groups: slow and smooth muscle stretching, passive movements, relaxing pressure point massage elements, volitional relaxation of muscles. If a patient shows signs of apraxia (loss of certain motor skills), physical therapist gives him/her specific training to teach how to perform ‘forgotten’ movements. During physical therapy session or during another session patients use elements of autogenic training. Patient learns to concentrate own attention at performed movements and to actively relax muscles of healthy limbs first and then of paretic ones.
With a satisfactory restoration of motor functions, when the patient keeps awkwardness and slowness of movements, attention during the sessions is paid to improving the motor qualities — agility, coordination of movements, increasing the speed of movements. For this purpose patient uses familiar actions. When they are performed, visual and auditory analyzers are mobilized (movements are explained, performed by command or signal, they are controlled by eyesight, etc.). All these techniques contribute to improving the quality of movements.
Exercises aimed at reinforcing strength are used when active movements appear and can be performed during the whole course of treatment. They are intended for training of hand extensors, shin flexors and foot extensors mostly in the shape of movements with optimal resistance.
Plan of physical therapy is created based on the diagnostics and is constantly corrected during the sessions.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS
Patient changes drastically even after only one course of treatment. He/she not only starts moving better, but also becomes more attentive, purposeful, and efficient.
Patient, after completing the course, receives and individual set of exercises of rehabilitation plan to do it home on his/her own.
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE?
Regular sessions 3-4 times a week are necessary. The course consists of ten 30-minutes sessions.
There are no age restrictions.
